Towards the end of the disaster relief operation, radio traffic was much reduced. The police's radio staff had installed a temporary police radio network to give the required coverage. To make sure it was reliable, it ran for a while at the same time as the simple RAYNET network shown below. Mobile and hand portable outstations used VHF channel 6 to the talk-through unit on Hazelberry Hill. The talk-through unit relayed the outstations onto UHF channel 2. A low power talk-through unit at the north end of Lockerbie Academy relayed any signals on UHF channel 2 onto VHF channel 7. RAYNET operators in the Lockerbie Academy Control Rooms used low power hand portable radios on VHF channel 7. Mobile and hand portable outstations used VHF channel 1 to the talk-through unit on Collin Hags. The low power talk-through unit at the south end of Lockerbie Academy relayed the outstations onto UHF channel 2 for Net Control. This UHF channel 2 signal also went into the north end talk-through unit and was relayed (double talk-through in tandem) on VHF channel 7 to the Control Rooms.
