On the 28th December, the comms. requirement for search sector A had dropped to a single mobile. Search sector I was opened up and a relay was required. The previous day, radio ranging tests had been done from Whita Hill area. The police obtained access permission and keys, so Whita Hill was used as an extra relay to cover sector I. The relay was at Ordnance Survey grid reference NY 379 846 and it was 348 metres above sea level. Helicopters dropped search teams and RAYNET operators into sector I which was the Border Forest area. |
